Advérbios de ponto de vista e observação

Existem alguns advérbios e locuções adverbiais que expressam o ponto de vista ou opinião do orador a respeito de uma ação, ou que emitem comentários sobre essa ação. Esses advérbios são diferentes dos demais porque não informam como uma ação ocorreu. Os advérbios de ponto de vista e observação modificam orações inteiras, ao invés de verbos, advérbios ou adjetivos particulares. Não existem diferenças reais entre esses dois tipos de advérbios, exceto pela forma como são inseridos nas frases. Muitos advérbios que podem ser utilizados como ponto de vista também podem ser empregados como advérbios de observação. No entanto, em alguns casos, um advérbio poderá ser utilizado de uma forma mais frequente que a outra.

Inserção na frase

Os advérbios de ponto de vista são posicionados no começo ou, mais raramente, no final da frase. Eles ficam normalmente separados do resto da frase por uma vírgula. Os advérbios de observação são inseridos antes do verbo principal, a menos que seja utilizado o verbo "to be". Nesse caso, a inserção pode ser realizada antes ou depois do verbo. Em alguns casos, os advérbios de observação inseridos antes do verbo principal também permanecerão separados do resto da frase por vírgulas, embora não seja habitual. Nos exemplos abaixo, os advérbios de ponto de vista e observação são exibidos em suas posições corretas. Quando a inserção na frase for incomum, forçada ou muito formal para a linguagem falada, ela será marcada com um asterisco.
