Discover your path to university abroad

EF University Foundation Program is a 2-, 3-, or 4-term (approx. 6, 9, or 11 months) program of study that helps you achieve the language and academic requirements you need for university entrance abroad. Intended for high school graduates, this program bridges the gap between your previous education and what is expected of you at a university abroad. This preparation year of secondary school studies is mandatory for most international students seeking higher education in the United Kingdom and highly recommended for students who wish to study in Ireland, the United States, Canada, Australia, France, or Germany.

Gain the skills to succeed

The EF University Foundation Program prepares you thoroughly for the challenges of higher education. You’ll learn essential study skills including essay writing, critical thinking, and independent research, as well as academic terminology. Depending on your choice of country and focus, EF offers a range of academic subjects, such as business, finance, and management, computer science, and psychology, which enable you to apply to almost any bachelor’s degree program.

Perfect your language fluency

You’ll gain the skills you need to meet university enrollment requirements. To qualify for most bachelor’s degree programs in English-speaking countries, you’ll generally need an IELTS score of at least 6.0 or above.

Secure university admission

With our placement guarantee, you’ll secure a spot at one of over 230 partner universities in the UK, Ireland, the USA, Canada, Australia, France, or a Studienkolleg/ bachelor’s degree in Germany upon completing your studies.
You’ll take part in dedicated university application workshops led by experienced teachers who’ll help you understand the whole process — from choosing the right degree to applying.

Your EF University Pathways Advisors provide one‑on‑one support throughout the process. They help you plan university visits and keep you on track with key deadlines, giving you the strongest chance of acceptance to your university of choice.

Complete the Capestone Project

If you are enrolled on a 3-term EF University Foundation Program, a Pre-Master’s, or a Pre-MBA in the United States, you’ll complete the Capstone Project during your third term. Designed to prepare you for the type of work required at university, you’ll conduct intensive research on a topic, write a formal paper with citations and formatting, and conduct a media presentation of your findings in front of a panel of teachers.

Earn valuable university credits

This program provides you with essential academic skills and the opportunity to earn credits toward your degree. Completing the program builds a strong educational foundation, aids in a smoother transition to degree-level studies, and may shorten the duration of your university education. This integrated approach ensures you are well-prepared for your chosen academic pathway.
