Passive infinitive
O "passive infinitive" é utilizado em algumas construções que fazem uso da voz passiva. Seu uso é particularmente comum após verbos auxiliares ("may", "should", "could", etc.), para indicar algo que seja possível ou correto. O "passive infinitive" é formado da seguinte maneira:
"to be" + "past participle".
Assim como ocorre com o "present infinitive", há situações que exigem o "passive infinitive" sem o uso da partícula "to" (zero form). Isso acontece após a maioria dos verbos modais e auxiliares, bem como em outras construções nas quais os infinitivos sem "to" são utilizados.

- I am expecting to be given a pay-rise next month.
- She is hoping to be elected president.
- The carpet needs to be washed.
- These doors should be shut at night.
- This window may be opened but that one must stay closed.
- Alice could be given a prize for her artwork.
