Why learn English?
English is spoken by 1.8 billion people worldwide, with 380 million people speaking English as a first language. It is the official language in 53 countries. Furthermore, 75% of the world's letters and postcards are written in English, 30% of the books published each year worldwide and more than half of the world’s daily newspapers are in English.
Almost all international conferences and competitions are conducted in English. For example, EF Education First was the official languages supplier of the Olympics 2008 in China, training the personnel in English.
English is the dominant international language in communications, science, business, aviation, entertainment, radio and diplomacy. English is also a prominent language of organizations like the United Nations, the European Union, and the European Free Trade Association.
