The school year begins in end February and runs through early December. The year is divided into four terms, with a short break between each term, and a month long summer
Compulsory Education |
Elective Education |
Students study from Grades 1 to 6 without examinations, though their abilities are tested at key points. The curriculum is nationalised across Australia with students learning core subjects such as English, maths and science, as well as social studies and physical education.

Students begin secondary school at Grade 7, usually at the age of 12 or 13. Secondary school is compulsory for four years, during which students gain a deeper understanding of their primary school subjects or begin taking vocational subjects that prepare them for a career. At the end of Grade 10, students sit their School Certificate or N-Level examinations. They can choose to leave school and enter the workforce, attend a vocational school or continue studying for two more years to complete a Year 12 Certificate or O-Levels (Singapore) which is required for university studies.

Successfully completing these qualifies students to enroll at university. Students usually undertake a Bachelor of Science (BS) or Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree programme for three years, although some degrees take four to five years to complete. University entrance requirements for international students usually include demonstrated fluency in English and the equivalent of the Year 12 Certificate or O-Level exams from their own country. Alternatively, international students can attend EF International Academy and progress directly to a degree programme at university.

Postgraduate programmes are offered in Australia and Singapore for Masters Degrees in the Arts (MA), Sciences (MSc), Business Administration (MBA) and Doctorate Degrees (PhD). Masters programmes generally follow a three or four year Bachelors degree and last for either one or two years. Doctorate programmes, however usually require four to five years of additional advanced study. MBA degrees generally require one to two years and candidates will need at least two years managerial level work experience in addition to a Bachelors Degree. The entrance requirements for international students is normally an English level of at least IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL 550 PBT.
