High School information

France's school system is known as one of the most selective in the world. Education is considered intellectual, placing importance on analysis and understanding.

French students go to school for 12 years. French high school, le lycée, consists of the last three years of study: seconde, première and terminale, with emphasis on languages and literature. Most EF students are enrolled in the seconde or première class level. If you are enrolled in the première class you may take the French part of the Baccalaureat exam. Le lycée has three terms, which begin in September, January and April. Schools tend to be large, the number of students ranges from 1000-3000.

Wednesday afternoons are usually free from classes. This is the perfect time to enjoy sports and extra curricular activities in your community.

Students show respect for teachers and address them by using Monsieur/Mademoiselle or Madame.
