Spain’s Cultural Capital
Madrid is often called Spain’s most ‘Spanish’ city. In addition to being the country’s political capital, Madrid is the epicenter of Spanish culture. Long standing traditions live on in Madrid, as evidenced by the long-lines outside of the city’s bullfighting rings and the continued popularity of flamenco dancing.
Madrid preserves Spanish traditions well, but it also embraces emerging trends in fashion, art and design as much as any other city in Europe. Outside of your Spanish courses in Madrid, browse the boutiques along Calle de Serrano, the most exclusive shopping street in the city. Spend an entire day soaking up the masterpieces in Madrid’s heralded museum, the Museo del Prado. Join the locals in cheering on the beloved Real Madrid soccer team in the stands at the hallowed Bernabéu Stadium. Or sample Paella at Sobrino de Botín on Plaza Mayor, widely considered the oldest restaurant in the world. Madrid is the most cosmopolitan city in the country, yet thankfully tradition lives on proudly in Spain’s capital.
