Hip Surf Town
The steady swells of Playa Tamarindo have drawn surfers from around the world for decades. Today’s Tamarindo blends a steady dose of surf culture with authentic Costa Rican living. Students in our Spanish courses walk to the beach for long-board lessons and eat an authentic local meal almost daily. Surfers might have lent a laidback vibe to Playa Tamarindo, but it will always be genuinely Costa Rican.
Just a short distance from the EF school are the beaches and mangrove forests of Parque Nacional Marino Las Baulas, an important nesting site for the leatherback sea turtle. The ecology of Costa Rica is truly remarkable, blending a beautiful coastline with a jungle interior. Venture into the rainforest and swim under a waterfall or take a zip-line across the roof of the forest. Exotic wildlife is everywhere in Costa Rica, as colorful birds chirp away melodies and howler monkeys swing from the trees around town, including those over EF’s pool.
