Helping you find your path

Students in our school this year are part of a new way of doing things and lucky enough to receive a new level of care and support. For the first time all of our students are assigned a Pathway Manager whose role is to support their needs every step of the way both personally and academically.

Pathway Managers are with our students helping with the major decisions that face them before they even start in school. They do this by being involved in discussions with students and parents about the best path for a student to take in terms of their academic course choice and subject choices right down to where they live and what extracurricular activities they are interested in.

With the help of our Director of University Guidance Debbie Chatterton Pathway Managers are a vital part of the help and support we offer our students from start to finish.

Pauline Zhang was born and raised in Xi’an, China and graduated from Nanjing Agriculture University. Before working at EF Academy, she was an ESL teacher and recruiter for several years. As a Pathway Manager, Pauline’s job is to make sure students are safe and happy in Torbay.






As a Pathway Maanger, Neil Abbott cares for and supports students and is available to answer any of their study-related questions. Caring for the students can also involve anything from accompanying them to the doctors for an appointment, opening a bank account and resolving host family issues. Neil comes to this role from an unusual and unorthodox path, having been a pastor of a Baptist Church both in France and the UK.






Over the last 12 years, Annie has worked in a range of roles from a curriculum leader in English to a pastoral leader and, most recently, as Senior Assistant Head Teacher responsible for curriculum and pastoral areas in a London school of 1500 students. As a Designated Safeguarding Officer, she has had experience in dealing with a broad range of issues around Child Protection and has extensive knowledge of how best to support young people. She has taught English Language and English Literature under a variety of exam boards at GCSE and A Level, including Cambridge IGCSE, as well as the Level 3 Extended Project Qualification. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education in Secondary English.




Julie Chudleigh has over twenty five years experience of educational leadership, learning and teaching in primary and secondary phases, in both British and International schools. She values and promotes wide-ranging support and enhancements, enabling students to access world-class Higher Education establishments. An experienced English language and literature teacher, in her most recent post as a Head Teacher she set up satellite language provision, supporting Mother Tongue development as well as English as an Additional Language. Her expertise in EAL and use of technology ensures that English language acquisition enhances learning fast.




As the Director of University Guidance, Debbie Chatterton develops, implements and assesses a comprehensive guidance program designed to increase the overall development of students’ academic, social, and environmental strengths. She is responsible for supervising and leading the school’s university guidance department in assessing the needs of the student population by collaborating with parents and faculty staff.
