English around the world
Each country and territory has its own attitudes and practical constraints that determine the role English plays in society, how it is taught, and what level of proficiency is generally attained. Looking at these differences highlights which practices tend to help or hinder English learning. However, the exercise also demonstrates that there is more than one way to encourage English proficiency. So while countries can learn from the experiences of others, they can still feel confident in setting their own agendas according to national priorities.
