If you're considering studying in Japan, EF offers a range of Japanese language programs to suit your needs. You can choose your preferred program based on your desired level of intensity:

  • EF Intensive Course: 32 lessons per week
  • EF General Course: 26 lessons per week
  • EF Basic Course: 20 lessons per week (ideal for beginners)

Our Intensive and General courses cater to learners of all levels. Prior to departure, you'll take a proficiency quiz to determine your Japanese language level, and our experienced staff will place you in a class with other students at a similar level, ensuring a personalized and effective learning experience.

Personalize your study abroad program in Japan further by selecting from a variety of Special Interest electives (SPINs). These SPINs combine language learning with your professional or personal interests, providing you with a chance to delve deep into the niches of the Japanese language. Our school offers several SPINs, including Kanji lessons, Japanese Pop Culture, Manga-reading, and Preparation for the JLPT exam, among others.

Accommodation for your stay in Japan

When you study in Japan, you'll be able to choose between living with a local host family or staying in a student residence. Is it safe to study in Japan?

If you're considering studying in Japan, you'll be pleased to know that Tokyo is considered one of the safest cities in the world, with a low crime rate and exceptional safety infrastructure. Japan, in general, has a reputation for being a safe country, with a culture of respect, politeness, and orderliness.

We also provide pre-departure safety advice, orientation sessions, and 24/7 on-call assistance to ensure that our students have a safe and enjoyable study abroad experience in Tokyo. 

Do I need a visa to study in Japan?

Visa requirements for Canadian citizens planning to study in Japan change based on the duration of the program.

If you plan to study in Japan for less than 90 days, then you do not require a visa to study in Japan.

If you plan to study in Japan for a period between 12 and 24 weeks, you can spend your first 12 weeks in Japan without a visa. However, after 12 weeks, you can partake in a weekend trip with EF to Seoul, South Korea. Upon your return to Japan, you will be allowed to re-enter the country visa-free for 12 more weeks.

If you plan to study in Japan for longer than 6 months, you can apply for a Working Holiday Visa.
