Discover Munich with EF

Munich’s atmosphere is always festive and the city is renowned for its warm and welcoming spirit, or Gemütlichkeit in German. EF’s activities coordinators are onsite to introduce you to a city where locals are as comfortable in the seats of an opera as they are around the table in a neighborhood biergarten.

Sightseeing & Culture

Visit Munich and step into the heart of Bavarian culture. Sip coffee at a sidewalk café in the shadow of Gothic spires in Marienplatz, the city’s main square for nearly 1,000 years. Tour the towering Frauenkirche cathedral, Munich’s tallest building. Stroll down Leopoldstrasse, the main pedestrian throughway in the historic Schabing neighborhood. Glimpse Bavarian monarchy at the stately Residence Palace and Nymphenburg Palace, whose palatial grounds rival the Chateau Versailles. And watch sparks fly on a tour of the BMW museum.

Shopping

The elegant avenue of Maximilianstrasse is lined with the storefronts of luxury boutiques, designer shops and high-end art galleries. Kaufinger Strasse is the city’s largest pedestrian shopping area, where you’ll find quaint boutiques among the city’s medieval architecture.

Sports & Outdoors

Cheer on Bayern Munchen at the ultra-modern Allianz Arena. Kick around a soccer ball or picnic in the massive Englischergarten Park, a short walk from EF’s classrooms. Meander along the paths of the historic Hofgarten. Float down the Isar River atop a raft or, if you’re really brave, ride the river’s rapids atop a surf board. On the weekends, head to the nearby Alps for world-class skiing and snowboarding.

Excursions

Discover the alternative appeal of ultra-hip Berlin. Get your cultural fix on a trip to sophisticated Vienna. Explore one of the world’s most unique cities while gliding down the canals of Venice. And spend a weekend hiking the German Alps and touring the fairy-tale Neuschwanstein castle.

Entertainment & Nightlife

Two of Germany’s largest universities call Munich home and the student scene is especially evident in the cafes, bars and music venues of the Schwabing neighborhood. See the Bavarian State Opera perform at the famed Nationaltheater. And sip beer, nosh pretzel and sing German songs at one of the city’s festive biergartens.
